Frequently Asked Questions

Q-1: HOW MANY HOURS OF PROGRAMMING CAN THE TENBOX STORE?
A: When used as recording capacity expander of a HD DVR:
TenBox TB1000: 667 hours of standard TV  or 167 hours of HDTV (MPEG-4)
TenBox TB1500:  1000 hours of standard TV or 250 hours of HDTV (MPEG-4)
TenBox TB2000: 1333 hours of standard TV or 330 hours of HDTV (MPEG-4)
TenBox TB3000: Most DVRs do not work with external capacities larger than 2 TB yet; the TenBox TB3000 may be used in "BOX 1" Mode recording the same programs on both hard disks (duplicate storage): 1000 hs of standard TV or 250 Hs of HDTV.

Q-2: WHY IS THE TENBOX MORE EXPENSIVE THAN COMPUTER ESATA BOXES?
A: While most computer storage boxes used for data backup are in use for a limited amount of time, a storage box connected to HD DVR must work 24/7. Uninterrupted opeation creates the challenge of keeping the system working efficiently with controlled temperature and minimum noise. The TenBox overcomes these challenges with the best engineering and components. The result is a strong, reliable box that won't over heat and is silent enough to be used in a bedroom.

Q-3: WHAT ARE THE "BOX 0" and "BOX 1" SETTINGS FOR?
A: The TenBox has 2 internal hard disks that can function in 2 different settings:
BOX 0 (or stripped mode): combines the capacity of both hard disks, resulting in a storage space that is the sum of both individual capacities. This setting is recommended whenever maximum space is required.
BOX 1 (or mirror mode): programs or data are stored "duplicate" on both hard disks. This is the safest storage method, as programs or data are not lost even
when there is a single drive failure. This setting is recommended when storing photos, documents, etc.

Q-4: HOW DOES THE TENBOX CONNECT to a COMPUTER or a DVR?
A: The TenBox connects to most DVRS with an eSATA cable. USB port is used to connect to computers.

Q-4: WHAT IS THE QUALITY OF THE RECORDINGS?
A: Same quality of the broadcast.

Q-6:WHAT DRVs are COMPTIBLE with the TENBOX?
A:  TenBox TB1000, TB1500, TB2000 and TB3000 are compatible with all DirecTV Plus HD DVR models HR20 through HR23 except for HR21-100 and HR22-100 which are compatible with TB1000 and TB1500 only. Some TIVO and cable company receivers with enabled SATA ports are also compatible. Compatibility is not guarantedd and it may change with satellite/cable company software/firmare upgrades.

Q-7:WITH DIRECTV: CAN I STILL WATCH PROGRAMS RECORDED IN THE HR20/21/22/23 INTERNAL DRIVE?
A: Yes. DirecTV HD DVRs cannot see simultaneously programs stored in the internal and external storage, but these programs are not lost and can be accessed by restarting the receiver.

Q-8: DO CABLE and SATELLITE COMPANIES CHARGE A FEE FOR USING THE TENBOX?
A: Call your satellite or cable company for the latest policy regarding fees for external storage. DirecTV does not.

Q-9: HOW DO I SETUP the TENBOX to SAVE FILES FROM my COMPUTER?
A: Connect the TENBOX to your computer as if it was just one more drive.

Q-10: WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM DISTANCE THAT CAN SEPARATE THE TENBOX and a COMPUTER or DVR?
A: 2 meters is the maximum length allowed for the eSATA cable.

Q-11: WHAT IS THE WARRANTY?
A: 1 year for parts and labor. 3 years on the HDDs.

Q-12: WHAT OTHER PRODUCTS ARE MADE BY TENLAB?
